Introduction

Khan sahib Col. Khan Muhammad Khan
Baba-e-Poonch, Alhaj Khan Sahib Col. Khan Muhammad Khan was born in village Chhachhan
Sudhnuti in 1882. Chhachhan in Sudhnuti is now called Khan Abad with his name. Govt. of AJK in context of Sudhan educational conference established a technical institute with his name called Khan Sahib Govt. Polytechnic institute at Rawalakot AJK. Col. Khan Muhammad Khan was  given the surname Khan Sahib from the British Government because of his excellent performance in First World War. He got education of Quran at his home from Molvi ALI Bhader before going to school. At the age of 10 years he was admitted in primary school  Kahuta Rawalpindi. School was far away from his home and he had to stay in Kahuta. He was a renowned personality of Sudhan Tribe. His family was financially sound, but there were not educational and communication facilities available in that particular area. After completing primary education he joined British army on 23 September 1902. He participated in the First World War. Because of his boldness and courage, he was awarded IDSM medal by the British Government. After retirement from British army he was appointed as police inspector Poonch by Raja Baldave Singh and he served on the said post up-till 1924. During this service he purchased land near Poonch shehr and constructed a building for passengers free of cost called Sudhan Serraye. After leaving service of police inspector he came back to chhachhan and started welfare works. He asked people that the wealth which they were spending on tobacco, tea and naswar etc. can be utilized for betterment, for the people of the area. He started construction with self sport of the public. He devoted his life for people, due to his long struggle for promoting education and social reforms he is called Sir Syed of Poonch.
To eliminate injustice with Kashmir Muslims he presented 39 points demand to the Kashmir Government in 1932, and to solve problems of thousands of Ex. Soldiers who participated in First World War. He succeeded to get a soldier board in Pallandri (Sudhnuti) and he remained the secretary of this board from 1932 t0 1939. In 1934 he was elected member of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly from Tehsil Sudhnuti and Bagh. In 1938 because of his achievements he was again elected un-opposed assembly member up-till 1946. After 1946 Khan Sahib introduced and nominated Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan for contesting election instead of him. To educate the people of the area, he established Sudhan educational conference in 1936. He selected 80 thousands persons to participate in 2nd world war (1939-45) from which 60 thousand were from Sudhan tribe. These trained persons of the 2nd world war played a vital role for freedom of Kashmir. This famous man of Sudhan Tribe died on 10-Nov-1961.
